Step 8: If you want to avoid spam then, switch to the “My Contacts” option, so only users in your contact book can add you to a group.
Step 9: If you want granular control over the process then, choose the “My Contacts Except” option. You will then be able to select specific users from your contact list who can not directly add you to a group.
This is a great option if you know the people who frequently add you to WhatsApp groups which you do not want to be a part of.
After doing this, when someone not in your contact book tries to add you to a group, they will get a message that they can not directly add you to a group. Instead, they can choose to send an invite to the group to you like a personal message.
Controlling process is slightly different on the iPhone. Instead of the “My Contacts Except” option, you will have a “Nobody” option. This is a total blanket ban that stops anyone and everyone from adding you to a group directly.
Step 1: First, open the WhatsApp app on your iPhone and click on the “Settings” tab from the toolbar. Here, select the “Account” option.
Step 2: Then, click on the “Privacy” button.
Step 3: Now select the “Groups” option.
Step 4: From here you can now choose between “Everyone,” “My Contacts,” and “Nobody.”
Step 5: “Everyone” option is the default. To let only your contacts add you to a group, select the “My Contacts” option. If you want a blanket ban for everyone then, select “Nobody.”
Now, when someone tries to add you to a group, they will see an “Invite Friend” button instead. When they will tap on it, you will receive an invite to join the group as a personal message.
